This is what you do, if you are concerned about getting infected

In two cases, you should have your cold symptoms checked for the coronavirus: First, if you have had contact with someone who has been diagnosed with the coronavirus in the laboratory. Or, on the other hand if you have recently been in one of the risk areas.

If at least one of these two cases applies to you: Call your family doctor or dial 116 117. In both cases, a so-called "screening" is carried out on the phone to determine whether a contagion with the coronavirus is also suspected from a medical point of view.
The doctor will then decide whether testing including a smear is necessary in the diagnostic center and will refer you there. The diagnostic center only treats people referred by a doctor who also have pronounced symptoms (e.g. fever> 38.5 ° C).

Please understand that it is not possible to test people who do not meet the criteria listed above, due to the the laboratory‘s  limited capacities of examination.

A laboratory diagnosis should only be carried out in case of symptons of disease so as to clarify the possible causes. If a person is healthy, a test for CVID-19 offers no conclusion that one can get sick. In addition, the test capacities would be strained unecessarily.

As an employee, can I just stay at home, because I am afraid of getting infected?

Dr. Frank Pisani from the Health Department on the optimized work of the diagnostic center on Mintarder Straße

"As part of the extension of the opening hours of the diagnostic center, we have also expanded the test capacities. In addition to the already known test requirements ( contact with a confirmed Covid-19 case, a return from a country classified as a risk area or a region with an accumulation of Covid-19 cases and symptoms that have occurred), we now also offer testing for people with previous illnesses and respiratory diseases . We would also like to offer the test to people who work on a voluntary or on a full-time basis with risk patients (hospital and nursing staff).
Please consult your physician prior to visiting the diagnostic center and have your medical referral faxed to the diagnostic center. In spite of the expansion of the capacities, we would like to ask you to demonstrate solidarity with those in need of testing. A test does not always make sense. If a family member living in domestic community has already been tested, one will already  have been placed under

How can you protect yourself from infection?

Like influenza and other acute respiratory infections, cough and sneeze etiquette and good hand hygiene also protect against transmission of the new corona virus. In view of all diseases, these measures are advisable everywhere and at any time.

You can find more information on the website of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

How does the virus spread?

Humans can intercept the corona virus (COVID-19) from other people with the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth that spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales. These droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces and then touching their eyes, nose or mouth. Humans can also catch COVID-19 by inhaling droplets from someone with COVID-19 who coughs or exhales droplets. For this reason, it is important to be more than 1 meter away from a sick person.

In which regions and countries has SARS-CoV-2 been detected?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated the spread of Coronavirus as a pandemy. Pandemy stands for an infectuous disease in human beings, which spreads across countries and continents. Coronavirus has spread globally. On the pages oft he WHO, the number of infections can be checked on a daily basis.

Is it possible to get infected by Coronavirus via imported food, surfaces or objects?

In the case of coronavirus, which can cause respiratory illnesses, the transmission happens primarily through secretions of the respiratory tract. If these infectuous secretions reach the hands, which then for instance touch the face, transmission is also possible in this manner. Good hand hygiene, therefore, is an important part of prevention.. Transmission via lifeless surfaces, however, has so far not been documented. An infection with SARS-CoV-2 via surfaces, which do not belong to the immediate surroundings of patients with symptoms, e.g. imported goods, mailings or baggage, therefore, seems unlikely.
